Total Time 45 minutes

Equipment

  • Round cavity silicone molds
  • Silicone spatula
  • Offset spatula

Ingredients

  • 350 grams white chocolate
  • 4 packets instant coffee or hot chocolate
  • Oil-based colors - red, blue, green, yellow, or colored candy melts
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Colored sprinkles - optional

Instructions

  • Temper the chocolate: Melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30-second intervals until it’s completely melted and reaches 49 degrees Celsius ( you can use a candy or digital thermometer to measure the temperature. Add some more chocolate into the melted chocolate and mix it until completely melted; this will help the temperature come down quicker. Keep mixing the chocolate until it reaches 29 degrees Celsius; at this point, it will be ready to use.

  • Make the colored chocolate chips: (skip this step if using colored candy melts). Separate 100 grams of the tempered chocolate and divide it into four parts and color each part red, blue, yellow, and green. Put each color in piping bags, make a small cut and pipe mini chocolate chips for each color, and let them set for 15 minutes.

  • Make the chocolate spheres: If the chocolate has cooled down, heat it to bring it back to 29 degrees Celsius (tempering point). add a few tablespoons of it into each sphere mold. Twist it around so that the chocolate covers all sides of the mold, then turn it upside down to get rid of all the excess chocolate. Make sure there are no gaps in the chocolate. Let the chocolate set in the fridge for 10-15 minutes upside down until it’s completely set and unmold carefully by first stretching out the sides and then gently removing it from one side.
  • Fill the spheres: Once the spheres are ready, fill each half with the instant coffee mix, colored chocolate chips and sprinkles, and marshmallows for each house. You can add more toppings of your choice.

  • Seal the spheres: Take the other half and rub it on a hot plate to slightly melt the edges. Make sure not to place it on the plate for too long, or it will melt completely. Immediately place it on the filled bottom sphere and seal it gently with your fingers. Let the bomb set for 5 minutes; the melted chocolate will help seal the spheres together. Once set, top it with gold foil, and it’ll be ready to use. Set the chocolate bombs in the fridge until ready to use.
  • How to use the chocolate bomb: Place a chocolate bomb into a cup and pour very hot milk on top of it and let it sit for 30 seconds until everything melts. Mix the milk to reveal the color inside the hot chocolate to be sorted into your house.

Notes

Storage:
The chocolate bombs can be stored in the fridge for up to two days.
Tips & Tricks:
  • Always start using the chocolate when it is just about to reach the right tempering temperature as the chocolate will cool down further while you are using it. I start my process when the chocolate hits 29.5 degrees Celsius.
  • Make sure the chocolate sphere is not too thick, or it will not melt properly. Store it upside down in the fridge after making it to help the excess chocolate drip out.
  • Be very careful when unmolding the chocolate - star by pulling and releasing the sides, then stretch it out from one side.
  • If you like in a hot region, keep the chocolate refrigerated at all times.
  • Make sure the milk is boiling hot to help the chocolate bomb melt as easily as possible.
