Churros are a delicious treat – crunchy on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside. With this quick and easy Churros recipe, you can make this famous street treat at home in just a few minutes!
It started one fine day when a genius in some corner of the earth decided to deep-fried choux pastry, and thus, churros were born.
Did you know that churros are made from the same dough as choux buns/profiteroles/cream buns (whatever you call them) and eclairs? Yep, all of these delicious desserts are made from the same dough, the only difference being that the dough is baked for making choux buns and eclairs, and is deep-fried for making churros.
Churros are probably everyone’s favorite sweet street treat. You find these crunchy, long delicacies served with chocolate and caramel sauce in every carnival and festival you go to. But can I be honest? I have never had a good churro in my life, and it’s quite likely that you haven’t either (unless you live in Spain, Portugal, or Latin America, in which case I am wholly jealous of you).
Where I live, at least, store-bought churros are average at best. They are thin, super crispy, and lack that soft, pillowy texture on the inside. It’s like eating sweet fries, which in theory does not sound half bad, but it’s really not what churros are meant to be.
Since I don’t foresee a visit to Spain anytime soon, I thought, why not create these delicacies at home? So here we are.
In case you missed it, I already have a recipe for choux pastry on the blog. If you haven’t made choux pastry before and want to go into the depths of it, check out my choux pastry recipe where I give you all the tips for perfecting the dough. Both the doughs are exactly the same, the only difference is the final cooking technique (baking vs frying).
I love how quickly this recipe comes together, and it totally makes an impression! The crunchy exterior perfectly complements the soft center, and the cinnamon sugar coating on the outside gives it that extra kick of flavor.
You can serve churros with any dipping of your choice. There are so many options you can experiment with! If you’re into classics, try melted chocolate or caramel. If you like to do things differently, try cookie butter, pistachio spread, or even peanut butter and jam!
So, are you ready to become everyone’s favorite with this epic recipe? Let’s get started!
PS: I always measure ingredients in grams, never in cups. Using a measuring scale is the only way to bake accurately. Cups are very unreliable and can give different measurements, so I would suggest you buy a measuring scale before you start baking! If you can’t get your hands on one, you can use the online tools for converting grams into cups, however, I do not guarantee their accuracy.

Homemade Churros
Equipment
- Silicone spatula
- Piping bag
- Non-stick saucepan
Ingredients
- 120 gs butter
- 90 ml water
- 12 ml full-fat milk
- 20 gs caster sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 85 gs all-purpose flour
- 2.25 eggs
- Neutral oil for frying
- Cinnamon sugar
- Dipping of your choice
Instructions
- In a saucepan, add the butter, water, milk, sugar, and salt and bring it to a boil on medium heat.120 gs butter, 90 ml water, 12 ml full-fat milk, 20 gs caster sugar, 1/4 tsp salt
- Once the mixture starts boiling, stir the flour into the saucepan. Continue stirring the mixture for 5-8 minutes, until the dough starts coming off the sides of the pan and starts making a crackling sound.85 gs all-purpose flour
- Remove the dough from the stovetop and transfer it to a bowl of a stand mixer with a paddle attachment (you can also use an electric mixer for the next steps). Mix the dough on high speed for 3-5 minutes, until there is no more steam coming out of it.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, and mix the dough on medium speed until all the eggs are well-incorporated.2.25 eggs
- Transfer the prepared dough into a piping bag with a star or ribbed tip (I used Wilton's 1M), line a tray with baking paper, then pipe straight lines of the dough in the shape of churros. Freeze the dough for 15-20 minutes until it's set.
- Heat the oil in a deep wok or saucepan, then drop the set churros and fry on medium heat until they are golden brown. Make sure that the oil is not too hot, or the churros will cook from the outside but will not be properly cooked from the inside.
- Coat the hot churros in cinnamon sugar, then dip in the dipping of your choice and enjoy immediately.
