Give your hot chocolate a masala twist with three delicious spices – chili, cinnamon, and cardamom. This masala hot chocolate is thick, rich, and delicious and is the perfect cozy winter drink.
Masala Hot Chocolate
This spiced hot chocolate is thick and luscious made with cinnamon, chili flakes, and cardamom. Super rich and delicious made under 10 minutes.

Ingredients
- 10 cardamom pods
- 2 stick cinnamons
- 1/2 tsp chili flakes
- 300 ml full-fat milk
- 300 ml liquid whipping cream/heavy cream
- 160 grams milk chocolate
- 70 grams dark chocolate
- 20 grams brown sugar
- 15 grams cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Whipped cream optional, for topping
Instructions
- Lightly crush the whole cardamom, cinnamon, and chili flakes, keeping them in large pieces10 cardamom pods, 2 stick cinnamons, 1/2 tsp chili flakes
- In a saucepan, add the milk, cream, and spices and let it cook on low heat for 2-3 minutes.300 ml full-fat milk, 300 ml liquid whipping cream/heavy cream
- Once the milk is warm, add both the chocolates, cocoa powder, brown sugar, and salt and mix.160 grams milk chocolate, 70 grams dark chocolate, 20 grams brown sugar, 15 grams cocoa powder, 1/2 tsp salt
- Let it cook on low heat until the chocolate is completely melted and everything is well combined. Keep stirring often to avoid burning.
- Strain the hot chocolate to remove the spices, top with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon powder, and enjoy.
Notes
Storage:
The hot chocolate should be served fresh and warm for best results.
Tips & Tricks:
- You can use only milk chocolate if you prefer a sweeter hot chocolate; however, I recommend using dark chocolate to balance the flavors with the spices
- Use 1/4th tsp chili powder if you want less of a kick. Although the chili kick is very subtle, so give the full quantity a try!
